The elementary school around the corner from our house is called Forest Hill. Since we moved to this street 2 years ago, we have been walking the dog in the field, riding bikes and playing in the playground there so we are very familiar with the school.
Nathan started his Pre-K class there last Monday. We have been talking this school up for about 6 months and Nathan (and me) were SUPER excited to have him start. He is the 'big' kid in class since his birthday is in January and most of the other kids are before the cut off. He is turning 5 this year along with (I think) 1 other kid while the others are 4 or turning 4 any day now.
The night before school stated he had his outfit all picked out, alarm all set and was READY!
Being silly
Proud sister and Toto the dog
Then all hell broke loose. . . .
He started acting weird about 5 minutes before Miss Sherry opened the door. He was getting way too silly and I could tell he was nervous. Then she opened the door and BOOM - the water works. It wasn't so bad at first and Sal and I were (I thought) calming him down. Then all of a sudden came the tugging on the pants and the yelling "I hate school! I want to go home! I don't like it here". Mind you, we weren't even in the front door yet. We were shocked. This was so unlike Nathan. This was coming from the same kid who ran so fast into Tiny Tots last year, I barely could say goodbye.
We somehow got him in the front door and it only got worse. More yelling, more tears and teachers having to hold him back while Sal and I plugged our ears, ran outside and pretended like this wasn't happening.
Of course he calmed down 5 minutes after we left but I was traumatized and couldn't wait to rescue my poor baby from that horrible, evil, pre-k class!
The next school day was Wednesday and he was fine. There was an extra long hug and squeeze on my way out (but I didn't mind at all).
