Elf on the Shelf
Joe-Joe our Elf on the Shelf has made his return! The kids (and us) could not be more excited. If you are unfamiliar with the Elf Story, click here.
We first adpoted Joe- Joe last year. Sal and I didn't really understand the idea. Our Elf was out and about, spying on our kids in a new spot every day, but he was not michevious, naughty or funny. He was a little creepy honestly.
This year with the help of Pinterest and a little imagination. We have had SO much fun so far! The kids are loving his pranks and silly places he 'lands' each morning. Including Barbies bed in Cheyanne's doll house, behind the mirror after writing on it with dry-erase marker and behind the frog tank peeking in.
Here are some of our better ideas.
Some homemade and some borrowed.

December 1st! Joe-Joe's grand entrance! This day was talked about for the entire month of November!
Born to be Wild. Looking back, he should have been wearing Cheyanne's Barbie's motorcycle helmet.
Ah, yes. The HI-LARI-OUS underwear prank heard 'round Forest Hill. Nathan still talks about it. "Mom, remember Joe-Joe's prank?"

My First Thanksgiving Feast!
For all our Thanksgiving Holidays as a family, we have spent them away from home. Our house is way too small to host our own and I've never cooked for a lot of people. If I am totally honest, I am not a huge fan of Thanksgiving food anyway. Its always fattening, loaded with butter and just "eh".
This year we were invited to Grandpa Bob's house. He lives about 10 minutes away in Los Gatos. The meal was healthy and delicious! I mean DELICIOUS! It was so.darn.good! I don't know what was different this year but I was ALL OVER that feast! I almost had thirds.
In lieu of the delicious meal, Sal and I were craving leftovers. That's the thing with going to someones house. You never get to keep the leftovers....
So, we decided to have our own Post-Thanksgiving feast! It was fantastic and healthy! For the first time I made a turkey (which was fabulous!), stuffing, and quiona. The other stuff was easy. Plus, I had my awesome helper Shy. One of the best parts was that, wait for it, wait for it, Nathan ate seconds! Nathan! My little ethiopian. It must have been good!

A Bit Early
Kid Funny
After talking about Nathan's upcoming birthday.
Me: "Can anyone tell me when MY birthday is?"
Nathan: "YOU? You have a birthday?".
Cheyanne: "No."
Me: "Can anyone tell me when Daddy's birthday is?"
Nathan: "July 10."
Cheyanne: "Austin's is June 6, 2010."
We went through just about every single month and every day in February (including February 59th??) before they guessed Feb. 20. A few minutes pass and a friend of mine posts a 1988 Joe Montana trading card on Facebook.
Me: (covering name) "I'll give you $10, if you can tell me who that is."
Nathan: (without one second of hesitation), "Joe Montana. Where's my money?".

The End of an Era
Well, the Colhour household is officially crib-less. We aren't borrowing, renting or owning any crib, pack in play, or portable baby sleeping device. Can I get a collective HIGH FIVE?! Yes!
Actually, I will admit, it was hard, very hard, to get rid of the crib. This was Austin's and Cheyanne's crib and held A LOT of sentiment. I couldn't even bring myself to sell it. We donated it to San Jose Foster Family Organization (I can't remember the actual name, but that is what they do). Donating it made it easier to get rid of somehow. I hope whoever gets it loves it as much as we did/do.
We made big hoopla about the move to Austin. We started on a Monday and talked about the Big Boy Bed everyday. He new the baby bed was going bye bye and on Friday he would be sleeping in the new bed. On Friday morning, we went to Target where he got to pick out his new quilt and two new mimis only for in the big boy bed. He came across two friends there that he "had to have" in order to sleep. So they came home with us too.
All in all, the move went over without a hitch and he loves his new biiiig bed almost as much I love seeing his littttle body in it.

Tahoe
This Labor Day we spent in Tahoe at my friend Sam's cabin. Her and her husband have a 6 year old daughter named Emma. The kids had a great time together and all got along.

Tooth #3!
Cheyanne lost tooth number 3 last Friday at school. When we dropped her off in the morning it was bleeding and really wiggly. We tried to get it out, to no avail. When I picked her up that afternoon she greeted me with a hobo smile!
She dropped the tooth twice before we made it home and it was quite clear, something tragic may happen to the tooth.
Later that evening, she took it out of the tooth box in the bathroom and dropped it. It bounced in the back of the toilet right into someones (ahem, Nathan's) poop. Yes, he had forgotten to flush and the tooth was buried somewhere in the mess. She was heartbroken, but we decided the best bet would be to flush it and write the tooth fairy a note explaining the situation.

Luckily the tooth fairy is a pretty understanding lady. She also admired Cheyanne's honesty and the way she handled the situation (long story). So she left her $5.00 and some pixie dust.
Later that day I found another note to the 'tooth farie'. It was a picture with $2.00 change. God, I love her.

Kid Funny
After bath time, Austin took Ken and dried him off. He then went to the living room and grabbed a book, set Ken up and started to 'read' to him.
Me: "What are you doing Austin?"
Austin: "Reading to daddy."
