Opening Day for T-Ball was this weekend. It was a buuuuuuuusy day for all of us. We had to be at the field at 8:30am for Opening Day Ceremonies. Which took about an hour. Then we headed home for a short rest. Then back to the field for team pictures, practice and the first game started at 1. Although the kids were in total delirium when we got home, they held it together amazingly well on the field.
In T-ball there are 3 innings. Once each player (there are 8 on a team) gets a chance to hit and run the bases the inning is over. With each hit you are only allowed to run one base. Unless of course you are the last person to hit, then you automatically get a home run.
They are like this because it takes a really really long time for the kids to get the ball to first base. It takes a long time because every kid on the team dives for the ball (sometimes even the kid who hit the ball goes after it). Once they finally sort out who gets to throw the ball to first base the batter has been there a good 2 or 3 minutes. Then the ball is thrown and you have to wait another few minutes until the first base kid can get the ball back to the coach at home plate. Its hilarious and kind of hard to explain.....
Once in the out field the kids switch positions each inning. This game Nathan got to play pitcher, first base and center field. He took each position very seriously. He didn't take his eye off the ball and made sure once he got it, it went directly to first!
At the end of the game Nathan's concentration paid off and he was awarded the very first game ball. I was so proud! Even if he did keep calling it a trophy.
