Religion Kid Funny

While driving to Sal's work for a picnic dinner last night, we passed a large church with a super tall steeple.

Nathan: Look Mom! A tower!
Me: No honey, that's a church steeple.
Nathan: What's a church?
Me: It's a place people who believe in God go to to pray and stuff.
Nathan: What's a gods?
Me: Well, um...Some people like Nonna for example believe that God created everything. People, Animals, the Earth everything. But not everyone believes in that type of God. For example, me. I don't believe in that kind of God, but you are free to choose whatever you want to believe in when you grow up. There are all different kinds of churches and Gods for you to pick from.
Nathan: I don't want to believe in God when I grow up.
Me: Oh?
Nathan: Ya, I just want a race car when I grow up.

Another Kid Funny

While driving in the car yesterday, Nathan was harassing Cheyanne. Poking her, yanking on her car seat making faces to upset her etc. I told him to keep his hands to himself like 5 times. He didn't so I reached back and smacked his hand.

Nathan: OK, here's the deal Mom. Next time you smack me, I'm smacking your hand back.
Me: No. I don't think so. You NEVER hit your mother.
Nathan: No. I DON'T think so. YOU never hit your Nathan.

Eeny Meeny Miny Moe

These days Nathan and Cheyanne cannot agree on who gets to be (or has to be) first at ANYTHING. The first one out of the bath is a big fight or who has to get dressed first etc etc etc. We tried flipping a coin to see who goes first for a while but that got old and it took too long to find a coin half the time so for now we do Eeny Meeny Miny Moe.

Just Because

Just because the last few posts have been all about Cheyanne. Here's some randoms about Nathan.

• He claims to love bugs and for the most part he does, however, if one happens to land on him or touch him in any way, he will let out a high pitched scream and do the frantic girly "there's a bug on me" dance. This has even led to tears once. (FYI: Just because I HATE bugs i have embraced his love for them and will point out cool ones when we see them)
• He is very responsible. We have a nightly chore to hang up your towel after bath. He NEVER forgets.
• He is all boy. He loves blood, scars, making shapes on the ground while peeing outside, loud motorcycles, race cars, bugs (sort of), farts and best of all boogers.
• He still has a blankie. He doesn't drag it around anymore, but he will not go to sleep without it.
• He is an awesome helper. Whether it be holding the dust pan when I am sweeping or TP when someone is in the bathroom. Whatever I need he is ALWAYS there to help out.
• His favorite instrument is the guitar and recently he has been strumming away all over the house while singing one of his made up songs.
• He has this need to take apart everything he can 'just to see how it works'.
• He can do a pull up.
• His favorite breakfast is our Sunday morning pancakes, sausage and milk.
• He loves to be silly and make people laugh.

Grandma's Purse

A few weekends ago my mom came down. As usual as soon as she sets down her purse, Cheyanne immediately gravitates towards it and begins rummaging.

Her favorites are Grandma's wallet, Grandma's glasses case and Grandma's lipstick. My mom let her go through the purse and "borrow" her lipstick. She disappeared into her room and returned a few minutes later looking like this:

Me: Um, Oh my god. Shy, where is Grandma's lipstick?

Shy: I ate it.

Me (stammering): Its where?! You what?!

Shy: Its in my tummy.

Me: Oh, well then, um, did it taste good?

Shy: Mmmm Hmmm!

Dear Diary

Dear Diary,

Today I had to have 'the talk' with both my kids.
Cheyanne and I talked about why we don't pick our noses and eat our boogers.
Nathan and I talked about why we don't pee on our toys.

Coyote Point

Yesterday for a change we went to Coyote Point. We haven't been there since the kids were tiny. We left early in the morning and had a blast. There was almost no one there and with our Oakland Zoo membership we got 1/2 off admission.
The highlights were: kids got to pet a bunny and the Coyote was actually awake so we were able to see him. Oh and there was a Golden Eagle there was was the BIGGEST bird I have ever seen. I couldn't get a good pic of him, but I swear he was as big as Shy and had a wing span of 79 inches. His talons were twice the size of my hand. It was amazing.

Cash For Clunkers

This weekend that just passed was to be the last weekend for the 'Cash for Clunkers' program due to lack of funding. They are looking now to put another 2 billion in funding but it is suspended as of now.

If you have seen Sal's trunk, you know it is the epitome of all clunkers. Its a 1994 Chevy C1500 that gets about 11 mpg. It has over 130,000 miles on it and is filthy. With all that said trading in his clunker for a Prius was completely out of the question because its not practical for his line of work and people there would basically just make fun of him all day long. So, we decided we would go take a look for hybrid trucks or anything with better gas mileage.

I did my homework before we went to make sure we even qualified. We did. So I gathered ALL the necessary documents and we drove to Redwood City because the Boardwalk Auto Dealer was the only one within 50 miles participating in the program. When we got there, there were salesmen all running around looking like chickens with their heads cut off. It was a mad house. One person that worked there told us she had been there until 2am one night last week. Apparently the Cash for Clunkers program had cleaned them out. They only had 2 new trucks left and none qualified for the program. We checked Toyota, Chevy, Nissan and Jeep.

We did however find a 2006 Chevy Silverado. It was lowered with rims. Sal loved it immediately. He took it for a test drive and fell in love.
To sum it all up, we didn't go through the Cash for Clunkers but we ended up with a GREAT deal on a beautiful truck that only had 16,000 miles on it.

Another Kid Funny

This morning I drove to my mom's work to drop something off. When I got there she met us at the car outside for a few minutes.

Nathan: "I can't find my airplane." (a little toy airplane we bought at Target yesterday)
Grandma (looking around the car): "Oh I don't see it either." (she picks up a little batman figurine) "Here's this. Maybe Batman can help you find your airplane."
Nathan (looking down at his batman): "No. His eyes are too small."

New Swimming Lessons

Nathan's 10 private swim classes are over. He can now swim underwater 1/2 the length of the pool. Float and swim on his back 1/2 the length. Dive to the 10ft (with help getting to the bottom) to retrieve a 'sinker'. Dive to the 3ft (without help) to get a sinker. He's learning how to do big arms and turn your head to the side to breath as well as dolphin kicks and a few other techniques.

We were so pleased with his progress that when his 10 classes ended we immediately signed him up again. This time we signed him up for a semi-private with Cheyanne. They have so far had 2 lessons.

The first class they had together was with a new teacher and at a super busy time in the afternoon. They didn't accomplish much and ended 5 minutes early. I called that day to have the class switched. The only time they had available with Nathan's previous teacher Daniella, was right smack in the middle of nap time but I took it anyway. I'd rather them be super cranky one day a week and get a good teacher that will TEACH them to swim in the full 30 minutes we are paying good money for - not just play in the water.

Monday was their second class together with Daniella at the new time. Nathan of course loved it and listened to everything she was saying. He was so excited to have sister swimming with him he helped her put on her goggles, showed off for her a little, and kept asking her if she was OK.

Cheyanne I think was a little nerve wracked from her first experience in the overcrowded pool. She also is a lot more head strong than Nathan. She doesn't like to go under and doesn't have a problem telling Daniella NO when she doesn't want to do something. She will be a little more challenging to teach but I am sure her age also has a lot to do with it. She is coming into this a full year younger than Nathan. I know as time goes on she will be more comfortable in the water without a vest and learn to trust her teacher.

Thanks to my friend Jessie we have started going to story time at the Los Gatos Library on Fridays. One of the songs they sing sometimes is BINGO. Since the kids heard it, that is all they sing.

Update On Luna the Kitten

She is crazy, healthy and thriving. Her and Dusty are best friends and they play ALL THE TIME. All day and all night.

We have changed Luna's middle name to Tick (thank you Joey for the suggestion).
