While standing in a way-to-narrow line at Target. There was one woman in front of me, she was the next to be checked out. We were unloading our cart. I had just put a box of tampons on the counter and was quickly trying to hide it behind some other stuff so I could avoid the 'what's that' question.
Nathan: "What's that?"
{Snickering from lady in front of us}
Me: (quickly trying to think of a non-specific answer that will hopefully end the conversation)
"Oh, those are for Mommys"
Nathan: (thinking and still staring at the box) "But, what are they for?"
{More snickering and now turning around and smiling from the lady in front of us}
Me: (praying the cashier would just hurry up with the people in front of us and distract him from any further questions)
"Well. . . sometimes Mommys bleed and they need those." (still trying to hide the box - giving snickering lady the evil eye)
Nathan: (grabbing box and looking at pictures) "But, where do they go? Is this the inside of a Mommy's body?"
Me: (grabbing box trying to hide it again - wondering why cashier is taking an eternity) "Oh good lord. . .Um, no. . .That's not the inside of a Mommy's body. Its just a picture of what's in the box"
(still trying to hide box - then stubbing my toe, which of course started bleeding)
Me: "Ow!! Just leave the box alone, Okay? . . . Oh My God! Look at my toe!"
Nathan: "Do you want me to get you one of those things for your toe now?"
