Fire House & Police Dept

This year at the Foster City Arts & Wine festival Sal's aunt won a raffle. The prize was a tour of the new (5 yrs old) Foster City Fire House and all the firemen cook you breakfast. She was allowed to bring 8 people including herself so she invited us.

The kids were super excited to go. When we first got there, Nathan immediately burst into tears and refused to get out of the car. I think he was just too excited and the anticipation got the best of him. Sal took him for a quick walk and calmed him down, but he was still being really shy and quiet for most of the visit. Cheyanne on the other hand, had no problem with any of the firemen and to get their attention she'd say, loudly, "Hey!" over and over until they acknowledged her.

The fire house is huge and really organized. First we got an in depth (I mean in depth) tour of the fire engine. We learned basically where everything is stored and what it is. That took about an hour and when we were done, breakfast was ready. We all went upstairs to the kitchen where Fireman Dan had prepared french toast, egg scramble, bacon, sausage, and fruit salad. Breakfast was delicious and we got to talk with the fire chief. He gave us a tour of the upstairs and let us check out the fire truck. (This is different from the fire engine. This is the huge one with the super long rescue ladder on it.)

After we were done touring and eating, Fireman Dan called the Police Department which is right next door and asked if we could tour that also. Nathan is in love with Police right now so he was SUPER excited to get to go to the police station. (He is planning on being a cop for Halloween) Officer Doug, said yes he was near by and drove up to greet us. He let the kids play in his car, the front and back seat and turn on the lights. They of course thought that was the coolest.

Since it was Labor Day weekend the Station was really quiet. We only saw 2 other Officers and 1 Dispatcher working there. The kids got to play with handcuffs and best of all try out the motorcycles. On top of that we got to see evidence lockers, Dispatch, interrogation rooms and the crime lab. The crime lab is tiny and NOT like on TV at all. They have a County wide crime lab that is more sophisticated located near Hillcrest. The interrogation room had a tiny built in camera in the thermostat. It was literally a toothpick size hole.
All in all, it was an awesome time. The police and firemen are the nicest people you will ever meet.
